The body is the most exquisite work of art, housing emotion, memory, dreams and experience.
Movement is a tool that can be used to investigate the stories that live in the body. As a dance professor, it is my hope to nurture dancers as they find a voice through movement by uncovering the stories within their bodies.
In order for this to occur, technique is essential. For the dancer, technique provides a foundation for physical expression. My purpose for training artists how to move technically, efficiently and organically in their bodies is to enable them to experience total freedom of movement.
I take great interest in teaching trained dancers how to use neuromuscular directives in order to encourage detailed decision-making as they move. The outcome of this process aims to support anatomically sound movement that results in an ease and economy of effort that facilitates a long and effective dance career.
Freedom of movement can be achieved when a dancer’s heart, spirit, soul, mind and body are fully engaged and a dancer’s artistry has been nurtured.
