Christen Sewell Weimer embraced a passion for movement at a young age. Before actualizing her love for dance, Christen trained at the Olympic Training Center and competed both nationally and internationally as a rhythmic gymnast. Transitioning to the fine art of dance in 2001, Christen began her technical dance training at Atlanta Ballet’s Centre for Dance Education.

Christen’s love for dance propelled her first to Indiana University’s Ballet Major program, and then to New York, where she studied, choreographed and performed at Barnard College, Columbia University. Graduating magna cum laude from Barnard in 2006, Christen has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Dance.

Christen has performed with Atlanta Ballet, Brooks and Company Dance, T. Lang Dance, Second Avenue Dance Company, and with Bodiography Contemporary Ballet. In 2001, Christen was featured as a rhythmic gymnast in the Dungeon Family’s music video, Trans DF Express, featuring André 3000. In 2009, Christen furthered her studies at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. While serving as a Dance History Graduate Assistant to faculty member Patricia Beaman, Christen lectured at Tisch Dance, NYU Steinhardt, and at the New School. Christen graduated from Tisch with a Master of Fine Arts in Dance in 2011.

Christen has been employed in part, three-quarter and full-time capacities by the Performing Arts, Dance, Dance Performance and Choreography, and Visual and Performing Arts departments at La Roche College, Kennesaw State University, Spelman College, Clayton State University and at Brenau University as a faculty member. At the College/University level, she has taught Ballet and Modern technique, Contemporary, Choreography, Dance Appreciation, Dance History, Improvisation, Contact Improvisation, Conditioning and Flexibility for Dancers, Yoga for Dancers, Junior Practicum, Dance Repertory, Dance as an Independent Study and Ballet through the Lens of Kinesiology. Christen has also created original work for the Dance Majors and minors at La Roche College, Kennesaw State University, Clayton State University, and at Brenau University, as well as for the company dancers of Bodiography Contemporary Ballet.

Interested in the healing capabilities of movement, Christen was certified at the 200-hour level to teach alignment-based, breath-focused, mindful Vinyasa yoga under the guidance of TaraMarie Perri at the Perri Institute for Mind and Body in New York in 2010.

Christen would like to thank her family, friends, mentors and former students who never cease to inspire her.
